Write to this year's theme
Every year we pick a story-writing theme for young writers. Scroll down for this year's — it's a good one.
See what one class did
Mrs. Africano's 5th graders each wrote a story — fiction or non-fiction — for a year-end contest, then donated the whole collection to the library so other kids could read them and be inspired to write their own.
All 59 pages are free to read, right in your browser.

“Being a good example… For Whom?”
Someone is watching you — and learning. This year, invite your young writers to think about who that might be. A little sister figuring out how to share? A friend having a hard week? The new kid at school? Even the family dog?
Have them write a story — true or imagined, fiction or non-fiction — about being a good example for someone, and what they'd want that someone to learn from them.
Every writer is somebody's example. Who's yours… and whose are you?
